MM6 is a diffusion line launched by Maison Margiela in 2012. Maison Margiela, formerly Maison Martin Margiela, is a French luxury fashion house established in 1988 by Martin Margiela and purchased by Diesel in 2002.
The founder of the brand, Martin Margiela, is one of the most mysterious figures in the contemporary fashion world. The main characteristic of this house and its head designer is anonymity. Margiela never communicates with journalists and does not come out to the bow at the end of his runway shows. This is why so far, not a single photo of the designer has appeared in the press. Martin Margiela decided to become invisible when he got a job as an assistant at Jean Paul Gaultier in 1979, then he saw the media intrusiveness and decided to protect himself from it.
Under the second line of the brand, MM6 Maison Margiela, the French fashion house releases reinterpreted classics of the basic closet. The main reference points of the designer are sports aesthetics and urban style. Each piece is the result of experimentation with innovative fabrics, textures, shapes, and avant-garde cuts.
The design of MM6 Maison Margiela collections can definitely be called intelligent. All items from head to toe combine functionality and feverish deconstructivism in them. Known for his avant-garde sense of style, in MM6 the designer expresses creativity through recycling, transformation, and interpretation, which is not that easy to do in the mainline of the brand, as it is oriented on a more luxury segment, hence the fabrics have to be solid.
What is MM6 Maison Margiela?
MM6 Maison Margiela is the urban style clothing line of a famous French fashion house Maison Margiela. The line was launched in 2012, after almost 25 years after the main brand’s establishment. MM6 is known for experimenting with shapes and fabrics.
In terms of visual identity, MM6 Maison Margiela is very bold and extravagant. Even though the badge is set in black and white, it does look bright and intense. The logo of the brand combines lettering with geometry, which is very well balanced.
There is something geometric about the MM6 Maison Margiela logo. The design is dominated by two letters “M” followed by the number “6” inside a circle.
Below, the lettering “Maison Margiela Paris” can be seen. While all the letters are given in a simple sans serif type, the double “M” is bolder and larger than the name of the parent brand. Also, the words “Maison Margiela” are given in a different type than in the company’s primary logo. The MM6 Maison Margiela badge can be seen both in white on black, and in black on white, but no bright colors are ever added.
As already mentioned above, the lettering on the MM6 Maison Margiela badge is set in two different typefaces. The two massive capital “M”s are set in a heavy geometric sans-serif, which is very close to the iconic Sequel 100 Wide 75, or Neue Helvetica Paneuropean 83 Extended Heavy, but with the contours a little condensed.
The “Maison Margiela” part of the logo is set in the title can of a more lightweight and elegant sans-serif, the one similar to ITC Avant Garde Gothic Pro Medium or Gothic Std Medium.
The bold geometric logo of the French fashion house is executed in a black and white color palette, which makes it look very progressive and cool, due to the perfect contrast of straight clean lines and the background of the badge. And this is the color scheme, which entirely represents the style and philosophy of MM6 Maison Margiela.
