Meaning and history

The consistency of the Minnesota Golden Gophers logo is outstanding. Since 1986 when the current emblem was introduced, there have been no major updates. As a result, the school’s athletic program boasts a logo that is highly recognizable by fans from both younger and older generations

The crest features the letter “M” in two colors. The body of the glyph is maroon, while the trim is gold and maroon. The “M” on the Minnesota Golden Gophers logo has pronounced heavy slab serifs.

Minnesota Golden Gophers ice hockey

The women’s ice hockey team has won six NCAA Tournament championships. They have been in the NCAA Tournament Frozen Four on 14 occasions. As of 2019, they have had 17 NCAA Tournament appearances with the last one in 2019.

The men’s ice hockey team has won five NCAA Tournament championships. They have been in the NCAA Tournament Frozen Four on twenty one occasions. They boast a total of 37 NCAA Tournament appearances with the last one in 2017.

Minnesota Golden Gophers basketball

Both the men’s and the women’s basketball teams of the University of Minnesota have appeared in the NCAA Tournament 10 times each. The women’s team reached the Final Four in 2004.
