The University of Louisiana at Lafayette sponsors 16 varsity teams playing under the name of Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns.
In 2000, the athletic program adopted a roundel emblem. The old Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns logo featured fleur-de-lis, which was a pretty obvious choice as this stylized flower is the official state symbol of Louisiana.
You cannot see the fleur-de-lis on the current version of the emblem, though – only the name of the team. The typography, however, has remained the same as on the previous Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns logo.
The men’s team has unofficially competed in 10 NCAA Division I Tournaments. It also played in the 1971 NCAA Division II Tournament, in two NAIA Tournaments, six National Invitation Tournaments, and three CollegeInsider.com Tournaments. Among the achievements of the women’s team, we can mention that they won the postseason WBI in 2015 and 2016.
Football is the university’s oldest athletic program. The team has had several notable players to go to the NFL.
