The name “Lake Superior State Lakers” refers to the athletic program of the Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

Meaning and history

The fact that the Lake Superior State Lakers logo has been inspired by the ship theme seems only natural taking into consideration the name of the university and the athletic teams.

The current emblem, which was introduced in 2000, features a yellow anchor with a thin blue outline. On the forefront, there is the word “Lakers,” also in blue. The blue color on the Lake Superior State Lakers logo is probably supposed to conjure up the lake theme.
