LA Galaxy is the name of a soccer club from Los Angeles, California, which was es-tablished in 1994. Today the club, owned by Philip Anschutz, is considered to be one of the strongest in the Major League Soccer and has Guillermo Barros Schelotto as the head coach.
Though the visual identity history of the soccer club from Los Angeles features three different versions of the logo, the first two emblems barely differ in anything but the color palette. The real major redesign was held by the club only once, in 2007, and it brought a new strong, and recognizable symbol to the famous American team.
The original logo, introduced in 1996, was composed of a bright and futuristic image with a very stylish bold inscription on it. The image depicted a rounded yellow “galaxy” symbol with swirls and dots in a darker shade of yellow. The circle was enclosed of a smooth black frame, also resembling a swirl with its three sides pointed and curved in one direction.
The main part of the logo was the “Galaxy” inscription in all capitals, placed in the middle of the emblem in a custom outlined sans-serif, executed in a sea-blue shade with some white and black accents.
The redesign of 2003 changed the sea-blue color of the wordmark to a green one and added a delicate white outline to the yellow circular galaxy image. The contours of the logo were cleaned and refined, but no big changes were made.
A completely new style was created for the club in 2007. Everything but the yellow color of the visual identity was changed.
The LA Galaxy logo features a sleek dark blue crest in a double light blue and yellow outline, where yellow boasts two shades in order to make the badge three-dimensional and vivid.
Inside the crest, the bold “LA” lettering in a modern sans-serif typeface is placed. The white color of the wordmark also featured two shades, which adds volume to the image.
Above the “LA” nameplate the four-pointed Star in white, blue, and yellow is located. It looks bright and shiny, reflecting the strength and energy of the club.
The last but not the least element of the LA Galaxy FC logo is a yellow ribbon, arched under the “LA” inscription and containing thick blue “Galaxy” in all capitals. The lettering features the same custom sans-serif typeface, which looks powerful and stylish.
