The previous Incarnate Word Cardinals logo, which was used in 1998-2010, depicted the bird with its wings open wide. The creature was flying out of the “C,” which was the initial of the word “Cardinals.”
The following emblem (2011) comprised only the bird’s head. As the muzzle has grown bigger, its expression has grown more obvious. As a result, the emotional impact of the Incarnate Word Cardinals logo became stronger.
The men’s basketball team of the University of the Incarnate Word has competed in the 2015 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament and has played in the NCAA Division II Tournament three times.
The team has had eight Major League Baseball Draft selections. Their home arena is Sullivan Field. The head coach is Ryan Shotzberger.
