In addition to the official Seal, the Federal Bureau of Investigation also has the Flag and the Badge of an FBI Special Agent.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation logo (Seal) in its present form was created in 1940. Interestingly enough, its author was the FBI Special Agent Leo Gauthier.
The scales on the shield symbolize justice, while the 13 stars stand for the original 13 states. The laurel wreath – an ancient symbol of honor and fame – has 46 leaves (this is exactly how many states the US comprised when the Bureau was founded in the 1900s). The symbolic meaning of the stripes is connected with the meaning of the colors themselves.
Below the emblem, there is the FBI motto written on a white banner. The outer rim is golden.
The FBI Seal, which is placed in the center of the Flag, is surrounded by the blue field. The shade of blue is exactly the same as the one used on the Seal itself.
The design of the FBI Badge is older than the Seal and is absolutely different from it. The Badge depicts Lady Justice wearing a blindfold. There are the letters “U” and “S” to the left and to the right respectively. Above Lady Justice, there is the text “Federal Bureau of Investigation,” while the lettering below the picture reads “Department of Justice.” On the top, there is the symbol of the US, the bald eagle.
The name of the organization encircling the Federal Bureau of Investigation logo is given in a traditional serif typeface.
Each of the colors used on the FBI logo has a symbolic meaning of it own. For instance, gold stands for the richness and history of FBI’s mission. The red, white, and blue were borrowed from the US Flag. Also, red symbolizes courage and strength, while white is used as the symbol of light and truth. Blue represents justice.
