The Emerald Bowl was played under this name from 2004 to 2009. The event was an NCAA-certified post-season college football bowl game played at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California.
The first Emerald Bowl game took place in 2004, at Pacific Bell Park arena in California. The bowl hasn’t changed its name and location for all five years of its existence, and for only renamed first in 2010, becoming the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, the Foster Farms Bowl in 2014, the Redbox Bowl in 218, and finally turning into San Francisco Bowl in 2021. The interesting thing is that the initial name of the game, founded in 2002, was also San Francisco Bowl.
Today the game takes place at Levi’s Stadium, but the last game was only held in 2019, as two following ones were suspended because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Emerald Bowl logo, designed in 2004, featured a brownish composition with white detail, with the enlarged brown football placed into a stylized bridge-like wooden basket, and crossed by an octagonal burgundy banner with a double golden outline and a white uppercase “Emerald” inscription sets above a white “Bowl” and decorated by a stylized sun above the “E” and “R”. The first and last letters of the “Emerald” are enlarged, and the characters of the “Bowl” were extended.
While the Emerald Bowl logo went through at least one modification during its existence (in 2005), the update did not affect the overall structure and style of the emblem.
The original logo featured a stylized football over a maroon board featuring the name of the bowl game in white. The board was a rectangle with all its corners cut. The top of the logo remained almost unchanged on the second version, with only a slight color shift, while the board and the type were modified.
