Coinbase is the name of the largest in the USA, and one of the most popular in the world cryptocurrency trading platforms. The service was created in 2012 and has gained popularity pretty fast, so today its audience is already close to 60 million users worldwide.

Meaning and history

Coinbase is a cryptocurrency exchange platform and wallet, which allows you to buy and sell cryptocurrency, as well as store it. The service earns from the commission it charges for transactions. Coinbase, founded in 2012, is used by more than 56 million individuals from more than a hundred countries and has over 220 billion USD in assets.

Coinbase offers its users a variety of options. The most complete package — Coinbase Pro — is one of the top five global cryptocurrency exchanges by the number of weekly visits, and ranks second in the overall ranking of exchanges by valuation, following such a giant as Binance (established in 2017 in China).

The basic option of Coinbase offers more than 50 tools, which help users with selling, buying, and storing coins, while the Coinbase Pro has much more than that. The Pro version of the app is a bit more complicated, while the regular Coinbase is simple and easy-to-use even for those who are new to the cryptocurrency universe.

What is Coinbase?

Coinbase is one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency platforms, which was created in the United States in 2012. By today the platform, offering its users trading and storing coins services, is available for people in more than a hundred countries across the globe and has an audience of almost 60 million users.

As for the visual identity, the company is pretty strict and modest. The badge of the platform has been redesigned several times throughout the years, and always had the logotype as the central element. The color palette of the Coinbase visual identity was also chosen in the very beginning, with the first official logo introduced in 2013. The main color of the logo here is blue, which is strongly associated with technological companies and evokes a sense of reliability and security.

2012 — 2013

The very first Coinbase logo was designed for the beta version of the app, in 2012. It was a simple title case inscription in a bold full-shaped sans-serif typeface in dark gray or black, depending on the placement. The logotype was followed by a small bright green banner with the white “Beta” on it.

2013 — 2017

The redesign of 2013 was held by the official launch of the platform. The new logo was set in the lowercase and had a pleasant calm blue shade as the main color. The inscription was set in a slightly narrowed custom font with some small details, which made it look unique. The arched bars and smooth contours made it look friendly and kind.

2017 — 2021

In 2017 the Coinbase logotype was slightly refined and the icon was added to the visual identity concept. The lettering became more stable and bold, with the letter getting a bit shorter and wider. The light shade of blue for replaced by a darker version, close to electric-blue. As for the icon, there were two versions introduced in the same year: one in the new official color palette of the platform, with the extra-bold white “C” on a blue background, and the second — in black and white.

2021 — Today

The redesign of 2021 created a more confident and sleek insignia for Coinbase. The only thing that hasn’t changed here is in the shade of blue. The lowercase logotype changed its typeface to a more elegant and classy one, with rounded shapes of the letters and bold bars. The tail of the “A” is playfully curved, while the vertical bar of the “I” has a strict and straight serif going out of its upper part, to the left. As for the Coinbase icon, it is still a white “C” on whether blue or black background, but the new “C” is much thicker than the one from the previous version, and has a shape of the ring, with a suite narrow opening space.
