The Black Clover animated series since its release in 2017 has acquired a multimillion international audience. And all thanks to a rich plot, unexpected turns, and heated drama, which in the series are accompanied by beautiful graphics and a harmonious soundtrack.
Black Clover is a Japanese shōnen fantasy manga about Asta and Yuno, poor orphans from a remote village. The anime is based on Yuki Tabata’s manga of the same name, which he publishes in Weekly Shonen Jump. The first season adapted the first 23 volumes of the manga’s 228 chapters.
So, let’s move to the plot. Asta and Yuno came from a kingdom where people have magical powers. Yuno has an incredible gift, while Asta lacks it, but makes up for the lack of physical prowess. As children, the friends swore that one of them would become the next King of Magicians.
When the boys turned fifteen, it was their time to receive grimoires. Yuno got a book with a four-leaf clover, while most people get books with three-leaf clovers. Asta, on the other hand, received nothing. However, when Yuno was threatened, Asta revealed his true power, which eventually made him the owner of a five-leaf clover grimoire called the Black Clover. And this is when the real adventures of the friends begin. They start traveling around the world, fighting evil and saving the kingdom.
What is Black Clover?
Black Clover is the name of a Japanese fantasy anime franchise, which was introduced in 2017. By 2021 there were already 170 episodes of the series released, gathering millions of fans from all over the globe. Created by Yuki Tabata, the series was previously serialized in the Japanese weekly magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump and is currently serialized in the quarterly magazine Jump GIGA, published by Shueisha.
In terms of visual identity, the Black Clover manga franchise is quite calm and stable. The black-and-white logo of the famous anime is based mainly on the stylized lettering, with a small graphical element hidden between the bold and sharp characters.
The Black Clover logo is composed of a two-leveled inscription, with the top one, in Japanese, written in a string designer typeface and significantly enlarged, while the bottom English line is set in the uppercase of a sleek font with sharpened triangular serifs on the ends of the bars. The small five-leaf clover is drawn in between two parts of the Japanese wordmark, while for the secondary version of the logo, the main hero is the extra-bold gothic English lettering, with the clover in between the “k” and the “C”.
The sleep bold title case lettering from the English version of the Balck Coover logo is written in a stylized gothic typeface with edgy elements combined with arched lines and interesting sharp accents. The font, used in this insignia, has somewhat in common with such commercial types as Origen or Draculatrade.
As for the color palette of the Black Clover visual identity, it is quite simple and predictable: a solid black lettering on a plain white background with no colorful accents.
