Besiktas is the name of one of the oldest and most famous football clubs in Turkey. It was established in the big inning of the 1900s and today he club, nicknamed “Black Eagles”, is owned by Ahmet Nur Cebi and has Sergen Yalcin as the head coach.

Meaning and history

The visual identity of the most famous Turkish football club is closely connected to the history of the country and has always been very simple and patriotic. The color palette of the Besiktas logo has never been changed, and the national flag symbols have been the main graphical element since the team’s foundation at the beginning of the 1900s.

1903 — 1930

The original Besiktas logo was the only one of all the versions, which featured a rounded shape. It was a strict five-pointed crest in black and white vertical stripes pattern, which was placed on a white circle and enclosed in a thick black circular frame.

On the upper left part of the crest, there was a red and white Turkish flag with a moon and a star placed. Around the crest there was Arabic lettering — the one for the club’s name was above the shield, and two letters on the sides, with the “1903” under it.

1930 — 1940

Turkey started using the Latin alphabet at the end of the 1920s, and the new emblem for the Besiktas football club was created in 1930. It was a sleek crest with black and white vertical stripes and a smaller shield in the middle, where the Turkish flag was placed. The name of the club was now written in Latin letters above the emblem.

1940 — 1960

In the 1940s the inscription started being placed on the crest. There was a thick black horizontal line in the middle of the logo, where the white “Besiktas” lettering was written in all capitals. The red and white flag was now located on the upper left corner of the badge.

1960 — Today

The current Besiktas logo is fully based on the original versions, and was created in the 1960s, being only slightly modified throughout the years. The logo featured a sleek and sharp crest with two vertical white stripes and three black ones. The red and white Turkish flag is placed in the middle, repeating the shape of the main crest.

The upper part of the badge features “BJK” letters, placed on black and white stripes. On the bottom of the crest, the “1903” date of the club’s establishment is written.

In 2005 the club started using a version of the crest with a large black eagle on top. The bird is looking to the right and has its wings widely spread.

The black, white, and red color palette of the Turkish club’s visual identity represents power, passion, and loyalty of the team, pointing on its strongest characteristics and their willingness to move and win.
