Airborne Express introduced the first integrated air-ground system and automated package tracking.
Throughout its history, Airborne Express achieved several significant milestones. In 1980, it became the first airline to receive full authorization to operate a nationwide delivery service in the United States. The company also introduced technological innovations, such as the use of barcoding and handheld computers for tracking packages.
In the late 1990s, Airborne Express merged with DHL Worldwide Express, forming DHL Airways. This merger allowed the company to expand its global reach and become a major player in the international express delivery market.
DHL Airways, including the operations previously associated with Airborne Express, continued to operate as part of the DHL Express network. DHL Express is one of the largest express transportation and logistics companies globally, providing services to customers around the world.
What is Airborne Express?
Airborne Express was a prominent American cargo airline that operated from 1946 to 2003. It was known for its efficient and reliable air transportation services, specializing in overnight deliveries. With a strong focus on air express shipping, Airborne Express played a significant role in the logistics industry before merging with DHL in 2003.
The first version of the Airborne Express logo was set in a black-and-white color palette and looked very strong and stable. The badge was composed of an uppercase geometric inscription in two levels, underlined by three parallel horizontal lines, with a sharp diagonal cut on the right.
In the middle of the 1990s the logo of the company got redrawn in red and black, with the original concept kept almost unchanged. The “I” in the “Airborne” turned from lowercase to a capital one, the three lines got elongated to the left, and both two levels of the inscription gained red characters at the beginning of each word.
