Waffle House is a diner that works around the clock and attracts with its Southern diner magic. The establishment can be found in more than half of the states in the country with over a couple thousand locations. At Waffle House, you can meet both celebrities and common people who are there to grab something to eat. It is interesting that the Waffle House has its own “secret” language that refers to the different ways the dishes are prepared and served. The founders wanted the place to be the friendliest place to enjoy food and the best place to work.

Meaning and History

Founded by Tom Forkner and Joe Rogers Sr., two neighbors, the Waffle House first appeared in Avondale Estates in Atlanta state back in 1955. The waffles brought in the most profit at the time, so the restaurant made them their signature item and became the “Waffle House.” In just five years, the company began selling franchises, which allowed it to start expanding. The 70s and 80s marked a major growth rate. After the death of both of its founders 60 years later, the company is still privately owned and Joe Rogers Jr.  (Roger’s son) serves as the chairman.

Waffle House Logo

The Waffle House logo features a simple, bold design with geometric elements. It consists of the words “Waffle House.” Each letter is done in black using all caps and a bold, sans-serif font and placed on a yellow square with a black frame. As a result, the logo has a high contrast and a unique, casual vibe. The yellow greatly contributes to the friendly setting at the diner, emphasizing the restaurant’s focus on breakfast and comfort food. There are no elements that hint at the fact that this is a food establishment but it did not stand in the way of the logo looking recognizable.

Font and Color

Waffle House Emblem

The logo uses a bold, geometric font with a modern and clean appearance. It resembles a free font called Wendys Waffles font by Wendy Boehm and resembles Galaxie Polaris Heavy font (except the letter “S”, which has slightly different terminals).

The color palette is bright and bold. It uses signature black and sunny yellow. The yellow creates a very nice contrast and reflects the welcoming, warm atmosphere at the establishment. Meanwhile, the black makes the sign easily readable from afar (signs were placed high to be noticed by drivers) and gives it a professional appearance.
