Founded in 1992, the organization came to life through the efforts of 20 enthusiastic bull riders, including famous riders like Ty Murray, Cody Lambert, and Jim Sharp. Three years later, PBR hosted the World Finals for the first time in Las Vegas. It became a defining event for the organization. The association has since grown exponentially and now ranks as one of the top bull riding entities internationally. PBR was purchased in 2007 by the Endeavor agency, which helped further to professionalize the company and expand it.
