Sega releases the Sonic 30th anniversary logo

In 1991, Sega released the first Sonic game. Since then, the blue hedgehog became one of the most popular video game characters in the world. Preparing to celebrate his 30th anniversary next year, the Japanese developer has unveiled an excellent logo showcasing Sonic’s iconic style.

Rolled out on social media, the logo immediately won recognition among fans who appreciated its design featuring a blue silhouette of the hedgehog, and reminding of the design traditions in the game. Another remarkable thing about the logotype is the way the “0” imitating Sonic’s swiftly running feet.
As opposed to the 3D animation shown in The Movie: Sonic the Hedgehog, with Sonic’s furry appearance, this emblem pays tribute to the customary, cartoon style of the 16-bit game consoles from the 1990s.

It is also worth mentioning that releasing of Sonic’s anniversary logos is traditional for Sega. This is the way the company celebrates the hedgehog’s birthdays every 5 years since 2001, and each of the logotypes had its own design distinctive traits. In its press-release, the company recognized the full worth of fans’ contribution into the evolution of the character, and for those who love “the Blue Blur”, Sega is planning to release series of merchandise that will feature the logo and other depictions of Sonic. These will include an apparel line-up, energy drinks and even a book about Sonic.
