Pokémon unveils the 25th anniversary logo, teasing the celebration next year

At the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this Thursday, a Pokémon group presented a Pokémon logo reminding that the popular media franchise will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year. Posting the logo on social media, the Pokémon Company has announced a special celebration event which will take place in February 2021.

As Pikachu is the most recognizable Pokémon, its image became the basis for the anniversary logo representing a silhouette of Pikachu’s yellow head with ears with black tips. Instead of the Pokémon’s famous red cheeks, the emblem features a 2 and a 5 referring to the anniversary’s number.
It’s noteworthy that this design resembles the logo presented five years ago, for Pokémon’s 20th anniversary. However, that iteration was quite complicated, compared to the new emblem, while featuring a number of different Pokémon, including Pikachu, Bulbosaur, Jigglypuff and others that formed together Pikachu’s head with the “cheek number” 20.

The simplicity of the new logo is good, though. Being in accordance with the contemporary design trends, it reminds, at the same time, of the Clip art that was widely used back in the 1990s, the time when the Pokémon grew popular. So, we can say such a design solution is absolutely defensible.
