Meaning and history
Pornhub is the world’s largest porn resource, known primarily for its huge collection of videos, where everyone can find something to their liking. Access to some videos is absolutely free for users from all over the world, but to be able to view 100% of the content each user can purchase a premium account.
Pornhub is positioning itself as nothing more than another porn site and is constantly increasing its social responsibility by responding to what is happening in the world. For example, the company may offer free access to a premium account, or hold fundraisers for charitable purposes. The site also has an interesting educational section, as well as an opportunity for users to communicate their interests.
The visual identity of the website has got its constant color palette already in 2007, right after the first redesign of the logo. And since that time, only a few refinements took place, modernizing the emblem and making it look more professional and contemporary.
What is PornHub?
Pornhub is the most visited and, consequently, the most famous website with pornographic video content, which is available for free viewing in all countries of the world. The website features a huge selection of videos in all the possible categories, which are easy to find using the menu on the platform, or its built-in search engine.
2007
The very first version of the Pornhub logo was based on a simple gray wordmark, where the “Pornhub.com” lettering was written in a title-case of a neat and laconic Sans-serif typeface with thick clean lines.
Looking at the original logotype now it is pretty difficult to connect it to the current emblems, as in only a few months the gray-blue color palette of the badge has already been replaced by the iconic orange and black.
2007 – 2008
The logo was first redesigned in the same year, writing the name of the website in orange and placing it on a black background. The bold serif letters of the wordmark featured a black “marble” pattern, which made the composition dark and pretty difficult to read.
2008 – 2009
The redesign of 2008 brought a new concept to the Pornhub visual identity, writing the “Porn” in white Sans-serif and placing it on a black background, in the left from the “Hub” in black lowercase letters, set off an orange segment with rounded angles. The “Hub” part of the logo was underlined by four orange rectangles.
2009 – 2012
In 2009 the logo was made more voluminous and sleek by adding gradient shades to the black “Hub” lettering. The whole wordmark got a bit enlarged; and the contours of the letters got cleaned, which made the image more confident and professional.
Actually, the main changes were made to the right part of the banner, which was pretty heavy and unbalanced in the previous versions, but the new gradients and more delicate lines of both the letters and the underline made its’ job just perfect, creating a harmonious look. This version of the logo stayed with PornHub for three years.
2012 – 2014
The redesign of 2012 contrasted with the “Hub” part softer, by adding muted shades of orange and black to the composition. The underline, composed of four rectangles, became thicker and more massive.It added solidity and strength to the badge, also showing the platform as a super confident one, and reflecting its expertise and excellence in what it was doing.
2014 – Today
In 2014 the logo of the website was redrawn again. Now the main version featured black “Porn”’lettering in a clean and bold Sans-serif typeface, placed on the left from a softened orange rectangle with the black lowercase “Hub” on it. The is no framing or underline on the primary logo now, though the secondary version of the Pornhub visual identity features the same composition as on the logo from 2008, where both elements are placed on a black background. Still, the underline does not return.
Symbol
The current Pornhub logo features the word “Pornhub” inside a black rectangular box. The first four letters are given in white, while the black lettering “hub” is placed inside an orange box. The orange box looks as a button inviting the user to click it.
The old logo looked almost exactly as the current one, but there was a broken line under the word “hub.”
Emblem variations
The emblem is sometimes modified depending on what’s going on in the community. For instance, in October, the Breast cancer awareness month, the orange box on the logo was replaced by a bright fuchsia one. Also, the site may change its logotype for the Mother’s Day. For instance, in 2017, the orange box was replaced by a pink one, while a vase of flowers appeared to the right.
Font
At first glance, the typeface may seem very much like the well-known Arial Bold. Yet, if you take a closer look, you will definitely notice that some letters look a bit different. So, it is either a customized version of Arial Bold, or a slightly different font.
Color
The combination of orange, black, and white (where black dominates) has been featured on the Pornhub logo for years. Some people suppose the reason for this is that these colors don’t make one’s eyes sore at night. This explanation actually makes sense, especially if we take into consideration that this is not the only porn site using this palette. For instance, black is also the king on the Brazzers logo, with smaller presence of white and yellow.
